Who are Together for Short Lives?
When a child’s life is expected to be short, there’s no time to waste. Together for Short Lives is the UK charity that is here to make sure the 99,000 seriously ill children and their families can make the most of every moment they have together – whether that’s for years, months or only hours. Many of these children have complex conditions and need specialist care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Together for Short Lives stands alongside families, supporting them to make sure they get the vital care and help that they need.
Our partnership
The partnership between Together for Short Lives and Morrisons spanned almost three years, beginning in 2022. Together, we set out to achieve three main goals in order to help families caring for a seriously ill child to get support:
- Raise vital funds for children's hospices: Children’s hospices provide vital support to families at the hospice, at home and in the community. They offer a lifeline to families; providing short breaks, respite care and practical support to help families be families. They are there for families when they need them most, when the heartbreaking moment comes to say goodbye to their child.
- Help families caring for a seriously ill child make precious memories together: When time’s short, there is no time to waste. Not every day will be perfect, but there are so many moments of joy for families to experience when caring for a seriously ill child. We are helping families caring for a seriously ill child make more memories in the time they have together, whether that’s years, months or just hours.
- Help Together for Short Lives be there for thousands more families who need support: Together for Short Lives wants to ensure that any family caring for a seriously ill child can get the important help they need. Through our partnership, we developed new ways to connect with more families across communities, increasing access to children’s hospices and other vital children’s palliative care services for anyone who needs it.
In fact, our partnership managed to achieve these three goals and so much more. As of October 2024, funds raised by Morrisons have provided: - 215,685 hours of children’s hospice care.
- Special activities for 6,223 family members to make precious memories.
- Grants for 29 hospices to fund renovations and purchase vital equipment.
- A community outreach team to support 1,415 new families.
- Emergency grants and food deliveries for 756 families.
