Our new higher welfare chicken is being made available to customers in our supermarkets across the country, within new ‘Space to Roam’ packaging. Providing an option for those customers who want to buy and support higher welfare poultry. 

A longer life 

Our farmers have introduced a new breed of chicken which has a longer life. It's the first slower-growing breed to be accepted onto the Red Tractor ‘Enhanced Welfare’ module. 

 

Spacious barns

Our farmers have also worked with Compassion in World Farming to create a rigorous set of welfare standards for raising the birds. They include: 

  • More room to move around in spacious barns
  • Natural light
  • Ventilation
  • Bales and perches for play
  • A high quality diet

Our higher welfare ‘Space to Roam’ poultry will sit alongside Morrisons Organic and Free Range chicken, where the birds grow slowly and have access to the outdoors. 

All of Morrisons fresh chicken is 100% British and certified by the Red Tractor Assurance Scheme standards which ensures more space to roam than EU legislation, more enrichment, and the phasing in of the requirement for natural light.
