We've introduced over hundreds of new Local Foodmakers and their products to Morrisons stores across the UK. Each has a story to tell about being as passionate about serving quality food as we are - here are some of our local Foodmaker stories.


Powters

Powters

The Powters family have been making sausages in Newmarket, Suffolk since 1881. Now in their fifth generation, they’re still an independent family run business. Today, Grant and Tristan Powter continue to produce their sausages using British pork with their original recipe and spice mix. We met Powters at our St Ives Local Foodmaker event and they are now ranged across a range of our stores in the South East.


Clotton Hall Dairy

Clotton Hall Dairy

Based in the Cheshire countryside, the sixth generation family at Clotton Hall Farm work together with their free range cows to produce their whole milk clotted cream. Henry from Clotton Hall Dairy attended our Chester Foodmaker event and is now ranged in our Chester store, with plans to extend to further Cheshire stores in the near future.


Blaenafon Cheddar Company

Blaenafon Cheddar Company

Based in the world heritage town of Blaenafon, The Blaenafon Cheddar Company hand produce their cheese from their Edwardian shop on the local high street. Susan and Gerry Woodhouse continue to make their range of cheddar using their unique method of aging the cheese in a coal mine 300ft below ground. The Welsh cheese producers are now successfully ranged in our Abergavenny store after attending our Foodmaker event in the town in 2017.

Soave’s

Soave’s have established themselves in manufacturing Scottish Italian ice cream and frozen desserts. Based in Muirhead North Lanarkshire, we first met the family owned business at our Perth Local Foodmaker event with their ice cream filled Snowballs and Sponges. They are now ranged in numerous stores across Scotland.

Yorkshire Dama Cheese

Razan Alsous came to the UK in 2012 after fleeing the war in Syria with her husband and three young children. With a degree in Pharmaceuticals and a strong background in microbiology Razan decided to produce a traditional Syrian "squeaky cheese" (halloumi-style) using Yorkshire Milk. With a small business loan, she started manufacturing in June 2014 and after just four months of production won the the World Cheese Award Bronze Prize 2014/15. Yorkshire Dama Squeeky Cheese attended our Local Foodmakers event in Malton and launched in 50 Morrisons stores in July 2018.

Lottie Shaws

Lottie Shaws came to our first ever Local Foodmakers Event in Keighley in March, 2017. Their products are based on a one hundred year old family passion for baking which has seen Lottie take up the reins as the fourth generation of her family to run the Yorkshire-based bakery which started with her great aunts and grandfather and has been passed down the generations. Lottie Shaws now supply Morrisons stores in the Yorkshire region.

Punjaban Indian Cooking Sauces

Punjaban was founded by Charlie Sapal and her two children in Northampton in 2011. When Charlie's son Gurjeet went to University, he missed his mother's home made curry sauces so much she decided to make and post batches to him. The sauces were so popular Gurjeet began to sell it on campus for beer money. The business has now grown and the range includes sauces, rice kits and ready meals. Punjaban attended our St. Ives Local Foodmakers events and were ranged in our new St. Ives Store in March 2018 and we're already making plans to extend them to more stores within the region.


Cranes Cider and Liquer

Cranes Cider and Liquer

Cranes was brewed and founded by twin brothers Ben and Dan, to create a range of ciders and liqueur. Regularly enjoying a glass of refreshing cranberry juice in their hometown of Cambridge got them thinking... 'what if cranberries were brewed?' - and that was the beginning of Cranes. Cranes were ranged in the St. Ives store in March 2018 and there are plans in progress to range them across their local Cambridgeshire region and in the North West, where they already have a strong presence in bars.
